Description

Community Opera is a community-involved opera production format based on co-creation. The first opera produced and co-created with the Matera community was Silent City as part of the Matera European Capital of Culture 2019 programme and received great attention at European level.
The methodology used was the co-creation and accessibility design, meaning the design of P2P spaces were the artist/author led the group to the creation of each component of the cultural ouput/product, that in that case was an opera.
Each co-creation action was conducted as follow:
1) co-design: the artist knows the community and present them the topic (the theme could also be extracted by people needs). Starting from there, co-design practices are set up in order to produce a first collaborative draft of the product;
2) after a first re-elaboration by the artist, he/she with the community elaborate more the cultural product itogether.
3) the artist collect all the information and the work done in order to produce a final product. It is then validated by the community itself.
4) after validation, the process can be considered concluded and it can be started a new one for another element of the process.
