Forum Description

Join our open community!

We’re very excited to share with you the progress we've made in the last months. Despite the challenges linked to the COVID-19 crisis, partners have strengthened their efforts to deliver on the ground and provide effective support to the cultural and creative industries.

A quick recap: what are we all about

DeuS is an Erasmus+ vocational educational training (VET) project that focuses on unlocking the potential of the cultural and creative sector. It brings together 10 partners from 9 EU countries including 4 European Capitals of Culture (ECoC) who will co-create an innovative training path in design, critical thinking and entrepreneurship in response to local challenges.

DeuS works as a “think and do tank" where professionals with different backgrounds can upskill and re-skill while responding collaboratively to current societal and economic challenges.

DeuS builds on the work of the Open Design School pilot initiative, a participatory and multidisciplinary  open design laboratory which was pivotal to the successful implementation of ECoC Matera 2019. The project is funded by Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

You can follow along on our website www.deuscci.eu, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. An Open Community for the Cultural and Creative Industries Friday 26th of March 2021 we marked a new decade for the European ecosystem of cultural and creative industries as our Creative Knowledge Platform went online. This dedicated knowledge and community platform was launched to provide our sector with a joint space leveraging creativity to shape economic and societal dynamics. It brings together creative professionals, education providers, researchers and policy makers, and invites them to build an informal, open and pan-European community. We hope that you will join our community by signing up here.

The platform is a one-stop shop for the cultural and creative industries. It will offer open source educational materials and a variety of training possibilities for creative professionals with the DeuScomp toolkit, tailored to the current needs of the sector. It will also feature our inspiring initiatives collection, toolkits and other interesting reads to be inspired by. As a user of the platform, you will also have the possibility to expand your network, find new opportunities such as internships, job opportunities, funding sources, and many more. You will also able to send your contributions and engage or propose local or national challenges.

DeuS Comp Training

Soon, the DeuS Comp Training will be ready. The training will be challenge-based and offer three different pathways to choose from. "The DeuS project partners have been working hard to develop an exciting training programme that draws upon the needs and learning style preferences of cultural and creative workers,  identified in our earlier research. We’re currently moving into the validation stage of development, with partners hosting workshops to share details of the training programme and present an excerpt from a selected lesson, to gather stakeholder feedback and evaluation. This is a valuable opportunity for us to gather peer feedback to further refine and shape the training." - Shelley Doolan, Work Package Leader. Power Up Skills and Teams with Living Labs

The Deus Living Lab methodology drives challenge-based teamwork to provide real solutions to real problems.

It leverages co-creation, collaboration and multidisciplinarity as innovative learning methodologies (the so called “informal learning”) that empower the creative professionals and give the opportunity to work closely with other industries, while unlocking participants’ creativity and enhancing the power of peer-to-peer learning and knowledge exchange.

It’s inspired by collaborative tools and co-design activities, with the Open Design School Methodology as an integral framework and constant point of reference.

The key is its absolute adaptability in terms of size of the team, duration, background of participants, delivery format: it will be finalized according to the local context thus providing feasible solutions to apply effectively to real challenges.

The Living Labs aim also at highlighting the potential of the CCIs and promoting how creative thinking can support other economic sectors and civil society itself.

#ECIS2021 Pre-summit Opening Conference This year's European Creative Industries Summit started with an online PRE-Conference on the 21st of April. Over the course of five months, with the aim of gathering as many people and ECBN Members as possible, ECBN and the partners are preparing the Future Unlocked! #ECIS21 Conference. Future Unlocked – this year's European Creative Industries Summit 21 contributes to the unlocked potentials of the European creative economy and recovery of Europe. After more than a year of lockdown, this year's European Creative Industries Summit would like to shed light on the bright future of Europe with support of cultural creatives - from local to global, from live to digital. Our primary coordinator, Rita Orlando, spoke at the event. Here's a snippet of what she said: "Creative minds are in high demand. A survey by the networking software group LinkedIn shows that creativity is the skill most valued by companies hiring new employees. The word has a multiplicity of definitions: ability, attribute, attitude, capability, etc. There is no standard definition and no standard approach towards it: creativity is multi-dimensional" The next event will be the ECIS21 - BoS#3&4, Sustainable Creative Skills & Considerable Creative Bureaucracy on the 23rd of June 2021, 9.55 - 12.00 CEST. Register here.

Open Design School Matera is a New European Bauhaus partner! After being recognised among the first best practices at European level, Open Design School, the multidisciplinary and experimental laboratory of Matera European Capital of Culture 2019, was selected as an official partner of the New European Bauhaus, an initiative desired by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to reimagine our way of living together in a sustainable and inclusive way through a dialogue between art, culture, science, and technology. As a partner, Open Design School will organise a series of initiatives, gathering professionals from all disciplines to generate ideas, identify inspiring projects, practices or concepts, involving citizens to discuss and bring out needs and expectations.

https://youtu.be/hPpitFMCD0Y Our next steps Over the next couple of months the project partners will host a series of sectorial events and validation workshops to help refine the DeuS Comp Training. The first sectorial event will be Artlab Bari-Matera from 9th-12th of June 2021 that the project partner Materahub will host, soon followed by BRIGHT hosted by Creative Business Network from 28th-30th of June. Things that inspire us right now In this section we’re curating and highlighting articles, projects, people to follow or initiatives to join that we’re fascinated by at the moment. If you want to contribute to this section reach us at info@deuscci.eu. European Creative Cities and Covid-19: Dundee Urban Forum When: June 4 2021, 9:00-13:15 BST, online. Why: How do people with vastly different ways of thinking about the world collaborate productively? It’s a knotty problem, and the simplest answer is that very often they don’t, but Nesta found that mixing methods can actually lead to really powerful outcomes addressing some of the world's trickiest problems.
